Roadside Parking |
Binsey |
Sunday afternoon and the weather has improved to allow a gentle fell walk. Parking for this ascent of Sale Fell is on the road close to Wythop Church, gained by leaving the A66 near The Pheasant Inn. You will know where the walk starts as other cars will already be in position.
Gentle Ascent
Sale Fell is suitable for almost everyone. Widely-spaced contours and gentle ascents, about 700ft of ascent, walk start time of 15:15hrs.
The view back to Bassenthwaite and across the valley to Embleton.

40 minutes after leaving the car and we are at the top. It is very windy!
Uldale Fells |

From the summit, we walked eastwards to Lothwaite with fine views to the Uldale Fells (l) and Binsey (r).
The Wall
Memorial Seat
A subtle and well-used memorial seat with a fine view of Bassenthwaite Lake and the Skiddaw Massif .
Return route on easy paths.
Me n' Molly
This would be a "new" fell for Karen and Molly and one which I had only visited once before.
~~~
An easy walk for walkers of many ages and abilities.
Earlier in the day, dog n' me had been up Little Mell Fell - photos of our Mell Fell adventures will appear later, all being well.
Walkers: Karen, Molly The Dog and Me.
Route: Wythop Mill road, near the church, up on to Sale Fell, the obvious path up from the wall to the summit, more clear paths to the wall and then Lothwaite for a return close to Wythop Woods, staying out of the forest and back to the car.
Greetings: A couple and their dog, quite a busy fell in comparison to the earlier walks of this holiday.
Weather: Dry and bright with a strong wind.
Time Taken: 1 hours 30 minutes over a distance of about 3 miles.
